From September 8 to 11, 2025, the 17th International Conference “Correlation Optics 2025” was held at the Scientific and Educational Institute of Physical, Technical and Computer Sciences of Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University (CHNU, Ukraine). The conference continues the long-standing series of international meetings on Correlation Optics that began in 1993 (previous SPIE Proceedings volumes: 2108, 2647, 3317, 3904, 4607, 5477, 6254, 7008, 7388, 8338, 9066, 9809, 10612, 11369, 12126, 12938) and is organized by Chernivtsi National University, the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (Department of Physics and Astronomy), and the Taizhou Research Institute of Zhejiang University (China).
An important feature of the series is its merger with the International Conference on Singular Optics (Optical Vortices), which had traditionally been held in Crimea since 1997. As a result, singular optics occupies a prominent place and functions as a “conference within the conference.”
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss novel approaches and advances connected with optical correlation techniques for measurements of random optical fields and object diagnostics in diverse applications. The scientific programme covered:
Singular Optics;
Nanooptics;
Informative content of statistical optical fields, including optical chaos, polarization optics and coherence;
Optical correlation devices based on diffractive optical elements (including optical and digital holography, fractal optics, optical sensors);
Optical correlation diagnostics, interferometry and microscopy of rough surfaces and random media;
New applications of correlation optics in biology and medicine;
Optical correlation devices in information technology;
Methods and computer algorithms for intelligent data processing of correlation and singular optics;
Engineering, optical and biomedical devices and systems in tasks of correlation and singular optics;
Digital, information and communication transformation of scientific and educational processes in the context of global changes;
Green engineering, metrology of optical processes and new challenges of engineering-transport technology.
Sessions were conducted in a hybrid format with live presentations and session recordings, enabling broad international participation. Scientists from Australia, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Italy, Israel, Japan, Kazakhstan, Poland, Republic of China, Republic of Korea, Romania, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States of America took part.
The opening ceremony was held on 8 September. It was followed by the introductory lecture of O. Angelsky (Ukraine), “Introduction to Correlation Optics Conference. From approaches of singular and correlation optics towards effective application of structured light.”
The conference featured a rich programme of invited and plenary lectures. Among the invited speakers who presented were:

Poster sessions were organized daily and covered the full range of conference topics: new applications in biology and medicine; informative content of statistical optical fields; methods and algorithms for intelligent data processing; optical correlation devices based on diffractive elements and holography; engineering, optical and biomedical systems; diagnostics, interferometry and microscopy of rough surfaces and random media; and nanooptics.
A dedicated Students Educational Session took place on 9 September (with online moderation by O. Yermakov). It included presentations by Igor Kashtanov (Slovak Republic) and Oleksandr Arkhelyuk (Ukraine) on reliability and human-factor issues in telecommunication and data-centre systems, by Vasyl Ryukhtin (Czech Republic) and co-authors on neutron imaging and tomography, and an offline lecture by A. Demchenko (Ukraine) on “Fluorescence sensing and superresolution imaging.”
The final day (11 September) continued with contributions on live-cell microscopy toward nanometre resolution, light-powered molecular machines, computer-assisted multimodal microscopy, polarimetric techniques for biological tissues and melanoma detection, and phenomenological interpretation of Mueller matrices.
The 17th International Conference “Correlation Optics 2025” once again confirmed the vitality of the field, the deepening integration of singular and correlation optics with nanooptics, structured light, biology and medicine, and the growing role of intelligent data-processing methods.
